Weekly letter from St Luke's - 3 January 2025

Dear Parish Friends

Although Epiphany is on Monday (6th January - 12th night, the day traditionally Christmas decorations are taken down), we will celebrate it this Sunday with the reading from Matthew's gospel of the visit of the magi from the east to the infant Jesus. These foreigners call Jesus 'King of the Jews' (Matthew 2:2), a title that only appears again in the Passion narrative on the lips of Pilate and the Roman soldiers. All of these people saw something profound in Jesus, and expressed this in words that they understood. Paul too takes his 'understanding of the mystery of Christ' (Ephesians 3:4) and expresses it for his gentile audience, and we too, in our time, need to do the same.

Our Sunday services return to the normal pattern of 7am Holy Communion and 9am Family Communion with Zoom Streaming. Although Children's Church doesn't restart until the schools go back, children are always welcome, and there will be a children's message in the 9am service. See the links below for a copy of the week's notice paper and order of service for 9am.

Regards

Rev'd Timothy
