Weekly letter from St Luke's - 28 February 2025
Dear Parish Friends
This Sunday we come to the last Sunday after Epiphany. In this season, the focus in our Sunday readings has been on the realisation amongst those who met Jesus as to who he was. The Cambridge dictionary gives as a meaning of Epiphany "a sudden understanding of something important," but as we have seen this is not a one off occurrence in the scriptures. Time and time again there are new insights revealed, and here, as we celebrate the Transfiguration, we read of a quintessential 'mountain-top' experience for Jesus' disciples where their perception of their teacher changed dramatically...although as we will see as we follow them through the journey to Jerusalem, they had still more to learn.
Our services this Sunday are as usual: 7am Holy Communion and 9am Family Communion (with Zoom streaming and Children's Church). The weekly notice paper and 9am service sheet are available from the links below.
The March edition of Church News has been published on our website. Read it online here. Printed copies will be available next Sunday in church.
Lent starts next week. Services on Ash Wednesday will be at 9.30am and 6.30pm. Lent studies, using the book of Lenten reflections written by Australian Anglican bishops for Hope25, will start on Tuesday 4th March at 10am and on Thursday 6th March at 7pm. For those who have ordered copies of the book, these will be available on Sunday at church, or contact June for other options to get them to you.
Regards
Rev'd Timothy
