Weekly letter from St Luke's - 25 October 2024
Dear Parish Friends
After our excursion last week for St Luke's Day, we return to the gospel of Mark and another encounter with Jesus. The blind beggar Bartimaeus is quite a contrast to the rich man of two week's ago. Both are asking questions of faith; 'what must I do to be saved?' or 'have mercy on me'; both have an idea of who Jesus is. But it is Bartimaeus who seems to grasp what this means. Where the rich man cannot move from what he knows, Bartimaeus expects, and receives a transformation, and then acts on that transformation, following Jesus all the way to Jerusalem.
Our services on Sunday are as usual. 7am Holy Communion, and 9am Family Communion. The 9am service will also be streamed over Zoom, and there will be Children's Church. See the links below for a copy of the week's notice paper and order of service for 9am.
It is an exciting time in our redevelopment. If you come to St Luke's on Sunday you will see that the builders have started work in the church with the cutting of the doors leading to the new deck. Over the next few weeks we will see new and more efficient air-conditioning and lighting, a new carpet and the walls repainted, as well as the flower room being made into a proper servery. All this will be completed in time for our carol service on 15th December.
This work means that we are unable to access the church during the week. Therefore St Luke's Connect next Wednesday has been cancelled.
Regards
Rev'd Timothy
