Weekly letter from St Luke's - 17 January 2025
Dear Parish Friends
This weekend we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first services to be held on the St Luke's site at Ekibin. The wooden building on the south of our site was dedicated as ‘St Luke’s’ by Archbishop Sharp on 16th January 1925 and the first service held there on 25th January 1925. This was originally a church and hall, but became a full time hall (and theatre) in the 1950s when the present brick church was built. In our present redevelopments it will become our new Parish Centre. The history of this building is an epitome of the temporal nature of the church. We celebrate and learn from what has gone before, as we adapt to the present, and look forward with hope to the future.
There will only be a single service on Sunday at 9am, and this will be streamed over Zoom as usual. Although Children's Church doesn't restart until February, children are always welcome, and there will be a children's message in the 9am service. See the links below for a copy of the week's notice paper and order of service for 9am.
Regards
Rev'd Timothy
