Weekly letter from St Luke's - 15 November, 2024
Dear Parish Friends
Our gospel passage this week, from Mark 13, is part of what is known as the 'Little Apocalypse', as it shares a genera with the books of Daniel and Revelation. At first sight it paints a bleak picture, that of 'wars and rumours of wars' (v.7), and of the destruction of the temple (v.2), which would have been in the forefront of the thoughts of those who first read these words of Mark. But rather than fuelling our worries about the future, Jesus' words offer comfort to help us throuigh these times. What is important is that God is always creating new beginnings and as we gather weekly a simple meal of bread and wine is given to all of us enabling us to bring all of our joys and concerns and thanksgivings to God.
Our services on Sunday are as usual. 7am Holy Communion, and 9am Family Communion. The 9am service will also be streamed over Zoom, and there will be Children's Church. See the links below for a copy of the week's notice paper and order of service for 9am.
Regards
Rev'd Timothy
